Louise Brown, Employee Benefits Manager at Mearns & Company, talks about her role.

Describe your role at Mearns & Company
I am the Employee Benefits Manager at Mearns & Company. I manage the employee benefits team to ensure that we deliver a client service that aligns with our company values.
What was your route to Mearns & Company?
I’ve always worked in financial services since I left school. I was at Lloyds Banking Group for 16 years, after one of the big corporate reshuffles, I decided that I wanted a change. When I saw the job advert from Mearns & Company and looked into the company, I knew instantly that I wanted to be part of the team. And it’s very local to me!
What does a typical working day look like for you?
A typical day is a balance between team management and client interaction. I review team processes, and have a small client bank which I look after to help me stay close to our processes. This helps me keep up to date with the technical side of the market and trends. I also support with training and mentor new members of the team.
How do you balance these varied responsibilities?
Prioritisation and organisation for me is key. I dedicate time at the beginning of the week to plan out my week to make sure that I’ve got enough time in the week to support the team, but also to stay on top of my client work.
Are you working on any projects at the moment?
We are planning a launch of an employee benefits platform, Lightbox, for our employee benefits clients currently, and are hoping to start rolling this out to clients in 2025. It will be a great value-add for our employee benefits clients.
Can you explain what the Lightbox platform is?
It is an employee benefits platform for employers to share with their employees, giving them easy access to their employee benefits. It’s got a lot of interactive tools and is a great way for employers to showcase the benefits they have in place and communicate the value of these with their employees. It also allows employers to offer flexible benefits to their employees.
To finish on a light hearted note, If you won the National Lottery, what would you do?
I’d be able to invest wisely for my kids future with the help of the team at Mearns & Company, and also treat us all to a long relaxing break somewhere hot!
