Winter 2016 Newsletter

Post by Mearns & Company in News

This is the last newsletter for 2016 and it’s certainly been a year of change for the UK, if not the world! In the past 12 months, we’ve experienced Brexit, a change of Prime Minister and of course, the recent tumultuous American elections. Like the rest of the world, we are waiting to see exactly what impact these events are going to have on us all. It’s tempting, therefore, to hunker down and put things off until January at least, but now more than ever it’s vital to keep on top of most important developments in the world of financial planning. We hope you enjoy reading our winter newsletter.

Our lead stories for this edition are:

  • Finding income: a tricky savings climate Real interest rates may not rise much above 1% according to the Bank of England. If so, where can investors find income now?
  • LISA reappears after a summer redesign The Lifetime ISA is back in the spotlight, with a detailed framework published in early Autumn.
  • Is your family financially protected? The existing system of bereavement benefits is being overhauled in April 2017. What plans have you made for your family?
  • What is a £5,000 a year pension worth If you have pension benefits from an old private sector final salary pension scheme, they could be more valuable than you think.

We hope you find the contents of this newsletter useful and informative and, as always, let us know if you think you may be affected by any of the topics in this edition.
